Ministry Conducts Environmental Study in Khor Al Adaid. The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change in Qatar has undertaken an extensive environmental study focused on the Khor Al Adaid area, renowned for its unique ecosystems, including the inland sea resources and coastal sand dunes.
This study aims to understand the area’s biodiversity, assess marine water quality, and promote sustainable environmental practices.
Assessment of Marine Water Quality
As part of the study, field experts conducted marine water quality assessments, collecting water and sediment samples for chemical and biological analyses.
These samples were sent to the environmental laboratory to determine the health of the marine ecosystem. Preliminary results highlight the presence of seagrass meadows and mangrove trees, which are crucial for the region’s biodiversity and serve as natural protectors against climate change.

Marine and Terrestrial Life Observed
The study also documented a rich variety of marine animals in the Khor Al Adaid region, including schools of surface fish near the shore and a diverse range of coastal animals dominated by mollusks. Additionally, traces of terrestrial animals and signs of bird activity were observed, indicating the interconnected nature of marine and terrestrial ecosystems.
Importance of Sustainable Environmental Management
The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change emphasized the importance of continued laboratory analyses of marine water quality in Khor Al Adaid. These analyses are vital for detecting pollutants and maintaining the overall health of the marine ecosystem. Sustainable environmental management is essential to preserving marine life and helping plants and animals adapt to the impacts of climate change.
Call for Integrated Management
Preliminary findings from the study indicate a need for an integrated management approach for both the marine ecosystems and the coastal sand dunes in Khor Al Adaid. The environmental interdependence between these two ecosystems highlights the necessity of coordinated efforts to ensure their preservation and sustainability.
