Minister of Public Health Participat in WHO Investment Round. The Minister of Public Health, H E Dr Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari, actively participated in the World Health Organization’ (WHO) investment round on Wednesday at the Museum of Islamic Art in Doha.
The event attracted several high-ranking Ministers and officials from the Eastern Mediterranean Region, alongside representatives from various international, regional, and national organizations.
Pledges and Contributions for Global Health
During the investment round, a significant amount of $36 million was pledged to support the WHO in the Eastern Mediterranean Region. This funding will help strengthen health systems across the region and beyond, ensuring that global health efforts remain strong and well-supported.
In her speech, H E Dr Hanan Mohamed Al Kuwari emphasized Qatar unwavering commitment to investing in global health initiatives. She stated, “The State of Qatar firmly believes that investing in global health is an investment in global stability, security, and prosperity.
Qatar was among the first countries to respond to the WHO plea for a core voluntary contribution in 2021 to support the COVID-19 pandemic response and other emergencies.”
Continued Support for WHO Global Health Efforts
Qatar involvement in the WHO investment round highlights its proactive stance in supporting global health initiatives. The Minister reaffirmed the country commitment during the May 2024 session of the World Health Organization, recognizing the urgent need for ongoing and long-term funding.
“We are prepared to continue discussions with the World Health Organization to determine our contribution to the 14th General Programme of Work. This will enable the strengthening of global health systems, making them more resilient and prepared to tackle challenges such as pandemics and non-communicable diseases,” she added.
